Features:

As much as the player is impressive physically, it’s just as impressive in features as well. In addition to supporting MP3 files, it’s also compatible with WMA (both secure and un-secure formats) and ASF. Despite that, it’s unfortunate that Samsung’s MT6V isn’t compatible with Ogg Vorbis. Though users that actually utilize this format are in small numbers, it would be pleasant if Samsung had made it compatible with their MP3 player. UPDATE 06-21-05: A reader recently pointed out that Samsung has introduced new firmware that would officially support Ogg Vorbis as one of the audio formats.  We sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Since it’s USB 2.0 attuned, it can transfer files back and forth at impressive speeds. Throughout our testing, the player proved to be rock solid when it came to direct comparative performance. The navigation combined with the bright screen are a plus, as always. The four way joystick is a definite bonus and you can’t beat the fact that the same joystick can be used as a button to navigate through menus and choices.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the features is the actual battery life. According to Samsung, the player is capable of playing up to 42 hours of music with a single double AA battery.

The features don’t stop there. You also get a 4-line LCD display that’s not only bright with a backlight, but is large enough to display the ID3 tag information already edited beforehand. As it’s the case with many MP3 players, this one has a FM tuner in it as well. However, the FM tuner is packed with a recording capability in an attempt to further justify its importance and use. Just like the recording option, we were skeptical of the FM tuner as well due to the numerous poor implementations we have experienced in abundant MP3 players. And since Samsung is on a momentum to prove us wrong every time, this time wasn’t any different. Unlike our previous experiences, the scanner and the sound quality were in fact quite delightful.

To further add to the features list, you also get eight pre-set equalizer settings with one set to default along with Samsung’s very own WOW technology. The concept behind SRS WOW is to enhance the audio quality even more to impress the audiophile listening to the music. The equalizer as well as the WOW technology are solid options. We would surely suggest you turn on this option when listening to bass focused music, as it will truly enhance the experience.

The necessary USB 2.0 cable, cradle, lanyard, direct USB connector, carrying case, in-line cable, and earphones are all included in the package as well.
