Doom 3

There’s a frame rate limiter set at 100fps in the single player mode of Doom 3. The senior SLI configurations and the single GeForce 7800 GTX reach this point in lower resolutions; the GeForce 6800 Ultra stops a mere 5-6fps short of it. You should already know from our reviews that the game engine from id Software runs better on the GeForce 6/7 architecture, so there is no need for long comments. The diagrams clearly illustrate the superiority of NVIDIA’s solutions in this game.

The same goes for the results we got on the same level with enabled full-screen antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. Note, however, that only top-end solutions ensure a playable speed in high resolutions here. Owners of less advanced graphics cards have to choose between playing in a high resolution or with enabled antialiasing.

The above-mentioned frame limiter does not work in the multiplayer mode, so the topmost-class solutions yield close to 200fps on the d3dm4 map. The general picture is the same as in the previous case: NVIDIA GeForce 6/7 cards beat their opponents everywhere.

There are no big changes in the “eye candy?mode: NVIDIA is still victorious. The new-generation graphics card GeForce 7800 GTX, alone and as a SLI pair, and the GeForce 6800 Ultra SLI are especially brilliant in this test. The products from the GeForce 6600 and RADEON X700 families only provide a playable frame rate in 1024x768, just like they did on the Hellhole map.
