NVIDIA Corp. unveiled its latest mobile processor named GeForce Go 6600 targeting mainstream notebooks with powerful graphics subsystems based on Intel's latest generation Centrino core-logic supporting PCI Express bus. The new mobile chip from NVIDIA aims the same market segment as ATI's recently unveiled MOBILITY RADEON X700.

The GeForce Go 6600 graphics processing unit is a mobile version of NVIDIA GeForce 6600-series chip that has 8 pixel and 3 vertex processors as well as 128-bit memory controller supporting GDDR and GDDR3 memory. NVIDIA is expected to offer two flavours of its Go 6600 with different clock-speeds: the typical will operate at 375MHz/600MHz for core/memory, the Ultra will function at 450MHz/700MHz core/memory.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 will consume up to 18W of power, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 Ultra is projected to have maximum power consumption of 27.5W.

NVIDIA's GeForce Go 6600 visual processing unit for notebooks with PCI Express interconnection supports all innovations found in the GeForce 6-series of VPUs, such as Shader Model 3.0, PureVideo, multi-monitor capabilities and so on.

The Santa Clara, California-based graphics company said its latest mobile chip GeForce Go 6600 sports PowerMizer 5.0 technology, which provides better electric and thermal specifications compared to previous versions of the technology. NVIDIA said the GeForce Go 6 architecture itself has higher power efficiency compared to the firm's previous generation products, potentially because of thinner ?0.11 micron process technology.

NVIDIA said it currently has 30 design wins with its GeForce Go 6-series with the majority of designs won by the Go 6600 model. The company's arch-rival ATI has over 70 design wins with its RADEON X-series VPUs.
