Rumors are brewing that the next R480 incarnation will include 512 MB of memory. The Inquirer is going out on a whim and reporting that the next ATI card will have 512 MB of memory. There is a growing amount of evidence, as well as some talks, that the next ATI part will not contain more pipes or higher clocks -- but rather that it is getting a huge memory bump.
Analysis of the benchmarks at the site makes one thing clear - it isn't more pipes. It isn't faster clocks. All the specific scores indicate the performance characteristics of adding more memory.
ATI, of course, wouldn't tell us what it is it has up its sleeves. Sources outside of ATI also indicate to us that a 512MB part is imminent. If we're wrong, we'll just have to eat our GPUs.
I don't think GPUs are too tasty, so I'm hoping this is another one of the spot-on predictions that the Inq is well-known for. Those UK guys really know how to dig in the right places to get in the know.
