Now hopefully you'll get a good unit in return if the Easter goodie didn't turn out as well as you'd like!

Last week's console media scare concerned the dead/frozen pixels that are apparently plaguing Sony's newly launched PlayStation Portable handheld gaming console.?Specifically, word got out that Sony did not consider dead pixels on the PSP's LCD screen to be a manufacturing defect and as such not something covered under your PSP one-year warranty (news).?However, as many of you have managed to discover, Sony is in reality quite willing to replace PSP with funky pixels.

"The Sony rep suggested that PSP owners who encounter the pixel issue should try the device 'for a week or two' to see if it continues to bother them. 'If you find the spots are interfering with gameplay/video viewing during this period, we will support the various elements of warranty,' the rep said. Each PSP comes with a one-year limited warranty, which is on page 125 of the PSP manual. If a PSP is 'determined to be defective' by SCEA, the company will see to the 'repair or replacement of this product with a new or refurbished product at SCEA's option.'"

The last part still raises some concern, as there's no guarantee what exactly you'll get back from Sony if you do decide to send your PSP unit in as opposed to exchanging it at your local retailer.?Still, at the very least Sony is well aware of how seriously some consumers deal with dead pixels on their brand new PSPs so hopefully they'll get cracking with the replacements.
