Intel adds faster mobile processor.PC Watch, a Japanese site, has posted pictures of a retail boxed Pentium M 780 mobile processor. Apparently it has 2MB of L2 cache, runs on a 533MHz FSB at a 2.26GHz clock rate. Vcore is 1.372V at full speed operation, but falls to just below 1V (0.998V to be precise) when the chip throttles back to 800MHz "battery optimized mode".
The retail price for the processor is approx. $689, with an estimated OEM cost of $637 that will likely trigger a lowering of prices on other, lower speed, Intel mobile parts.
You can expect this processor to appear only in high end laptops, as the price of the processor makes it cost prohibitive for lower cost laptops.
