Intel's new mobile processor promises a significant performance boostIn its current move away from the Netburst architecture, Intel has been demonstrating its new Merom based mobile processor to its customers.
Merom will be the follow on to Yonah, which has a planned release around the end of this year. Like Yonah, Merom will be a dual core processor based on Intel's 65nm process; which promises lower operating voltage and current draw, resulting in significant power savings.
Both Yonah and Merom are expected to also be available in single core versions; and both are supposed to provide higher performance - as much as 30% - ?than the Banias/Dothan cores (and by implication, current P4 cores) due to improved architecture.
Higher performance, lower power consumption - both are highly desirable; especially since high performance PC's currently consume significant quantities of electricity.
