Struggling chipset designer Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. said that its chipsets would be used in Fujitsu Siemens Computers?ESPRIMO desktops along with AMD processors. The PCs touted by the chipset developer are mostly intended for business users and usually Intel-based PCs are supplied as business desktops.
The new ESPRIMO P5600 and E5600 desktop computers based on AMD Athlon 64 or AMD Sempron processors use SiS761GX North Bridge along with SiS965L I/O controller are aimed at business users, according to Fujitsu Siemens web-site. The mentioned core-logic set from SiS sports PCI Express bus as well as basic built-in DirectX 7.0-compliant graphics core dubbed Mirage 1. Previously virtually all business desktops from the computer maker used Intel processors and core-logic sets.
SiS761GX supports all AMD64 processors, including AMD Athlon 64, AMD Athlon 64 FX, AMD Athlon 64 X2 as well as AMD Sempron. Nevertheless, Fujitsu Siemens?desktops limit support of the chips with AMD Athlon 64 X2 model 3800+, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and AMD Sempron 3000+ models for some reason. While AMD has not officially unveiled its Sempron processors for Socket 939 infrastructure, it does quietly ship such chips to at least some of its partners.
SiS965L features 2 PCI-Express x1 ports, 6 PCI ports, 8 USB 2.0 ports, 8-channel sound, 10/100Mb/s Ethernet, 2 Serial ATA-150 ports with hot plug functionality and RAID, 2-channel Parallel ATA-33/66/100/133.
Pricing of the desktops is unclear.
“This attests to the strong, deep-rooted quality and stability of SiS chipsets, and we have opened the door to an expansive field for corporate desktop PCs. In the future SiS will continue to put its efforts into improving chip quality while providing full support for software and hardware platforms in order to expand the presence of our products,?said Daniel Chen, the CEO and President of SiS.
