32 GigaByte cards on their waySamsung today announced that they have built a 16 Gb flash chip, which will make 32GB memory cards possible by the second half of next year. The chip is produced on the 50 nm process and contains 16.4 billion transistors.
The 2 GB chip when used in a 16 x 16 configuration could give a storage capacity of 32 GB. So far Samsung hasn't announced any partners for bringing such a large chip to market, but if what has happened with the Ipod nano is any indication, Apple could potentially be a primary customer.
This news fits nicely with Samsungs strategy for Hard Disk replacement. Solid State Disks will no doubt be expensive when they arrive, but the technogoly is interesting nonetheless.
