Originally, laptop computers were intended for business users who are often on the road: no typical consumers wanted to get bulky devices with not very alluring design and lack of many useful capabilities. But recent technology advancements allowed notebook makers to create very attractive notebooks, which magnetize end-users. Still, 40% of U.S. adult computer users find their laptop to be generic, boring and dull and 60% would like to be able to customize their notebook with options such as color, patterns and fabric, according to a study by Harris Interactive. For those Intel and Toray Ultrasuede announced a solution.

Intel, Ultrasuede to Promote Uniquely Designed Notebooks

Collaboratively, Intel Corp. and Ultrasuede will promote laptops that feature ultra micro-fiber Ultrasuede fabric integrated directly into the casing of mobile computer powered by Intel Centrino mobile platform changing not only the look but also the feel of the system. Fabric should give laptops a feel of soft appeal, particularly important for young women looking for something unique, yet powerful.

?For many people, a laptop may be just as much an everyday accessory as a hip belt or skyscraper stilettos, so we?re seeing an image-conscious culture demanding that their laptop looks as great as it performs,?said Steven Cojocaru, style expert.

A recent Intel/Ultrasuede Laptop Style Study found that 73% of U.S. adult computer users want to buy technology products that reflect their personal style, and 76% of those computer users who admit to glancing at someone else's laptop PC are checking out its style or design.

Intel Goes from Inside to Outside

?Intel has continually evolved what goes inside laptops, making them ever more powerful, mobile and connected, and now we are working to inspire the industry to transform the outsides of laptops to better reflect consumers?mobile lifestyle,?said Jodi Geniesse, consumer mobile education manager, Intel Corp.

Ultrasuede's ultra micro-fiber has been successfully incorporated into hundreds of products from furniture to apparel, accessories and even aviation. Currently there are no details regarding pricing and availability of actual laptops featuring ultra micro-fiber casing. It is likely that the two companies will promote the capability among suppliers of notebooks in a bid to inspire them to make a unique product line.

Luxurious Laptops Emerge on the Market

Earlier this year Tulip Computers, a maker of computers from The Netherlands, unveiled its new Tulip E-Go series of mobile computers based on AMD Turion 64 microprocessors targeting audience more interested in design of the notebooks rather than their technology aspects. The most expensive computer costs ?283 thousand, which will place it in line with the world's most expensive digital gadgets.

The design of the Tulip E-Go notebooks mainly aims young women who use mobile computers, but want to demonstrate their unique style and taste. Tulip E-Go notebooks are available in numerous variations of leather cover with different patterns, all of them very lively, and one with cover inlaid with diamonds. The outlook of the Tulip E-Go was developed in collaboration with Marcel van Galen Design as well as jewelry designer Laurent de Beer.

The most luxurious among Tulip E-Go notebooks is inlaid with solid palladium white gold plates in which thousands of brilliant cut diamonds have been set. The brilliant cut diamonds are microscopic and pave set with surgical precision. A unique square cut ruby has been set in both Tulip logos. For this kind of technology customers have to pay rather unprecedented price of ?283 thousand.
