ULI launches new Athlon chipsetThe new M1697 chip is made using a 180nm process, and will be migrated to a 130nm process in the next generation.
The M1697 has 6.4M transistors use PCIe PHY cells from Rambus, and has 20 PCIe lanes, supporting either one PCIe x16 or two PCIe x8 video card slots and a choice of three PCIe x1 slots or one PCIe x4 slot for I/O.
By using two M1697 chips, ULi can support two PCIe x16 slots for SLI solution.
The M1697 also has a built-in SATA II controller supporting 3Gbps, four ports, and RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and 5. The chip also has an eight channel audio controller, a 10/100 ethernet controller and up to 8 USP ports.
