Kutaragi is still quite confident that expensive pricing will not phase success for the PS3, explaining that he forsees a life cycle of at least "10 years" for the new console.?Keep in mind that this does not mean that SCE will wait ten years until after the PS3's official launch before introducing a new console, as the PS3 is bound to be outdated by then.?Rather, they appear to be confident in the forthcoming console's extended shelf life, even long after a PS3 successor emerges.
While we can never be too careful when it comes to interpreting Mr. Kutaragi's brand of optimism these days, it's worth pointing out that over 90 million PS2 consoles (in all its forms) have managed to ship around the world since it first launched years ago, at least according to Sony, solidifying its continued success.?Will consumers and developers alike be faithful enough to the PlayStation brand name this time around to help the PS3 achieve similiar popularity over the coming years?
