A Quick Look At The RADEON X700 XT

Both the RADEON X700 XT and RADEON X700 PRO have different reference cooling modules, hence we'll take a look at both cards on separate pages. First up is the XT version, which had a thick copper base for fast heat conduction from the VPU while aluminum fins and a slim impeller fan cooled it.

This is the front face of the ATI RADEON X700 XT graphics card. Notice that the PCB has an option for other graphics card vendors to integrate an ATI Rage Theatre chip for video capture functionality.

This is the cooling module on the RADEON X700 XT graphics card that strictly cools the VPU only although it covers part of the memory modules.

High-speed 1.6ns GDD3 Samsung memory chips were used on the card, but it wasn't able to overclock to the chip's maximum potential.

Since the XT version has only 128MB of frame buffer, only four memory chips are mounted on the front face of the PCB. On the PRO version that typically has a 256MB frame buffer, the rear is occupied with four more memory chip.

The I/O faceplate isn't any different from its predecessors.
