ATI Radeon HD 5770 Idle Test:

ATI Radeon HD 5770 & 5750 Review

At a complete idle with no other programs running the Radeon HD 5770 had an idle temperature of 35C. As you can see from the screen shot above, the idle state of the RadeonHD 5770 drops the GPU frequency down to just 157 MHz and the memorydown to 300 MHz to help conserve power and lower temperatures just like the other Radeon HD 5700 and 5800 series cards.

ATI Radeon HD 5770 Load Temperature:

The ATI Radeon HD 5770 maxed out at 75C, but fluctuatedbetween 74C-745C once it leveled out. The fan on the ATI Radeon HD 5850video card was left on auto during temperature testing. Once the card leveled off we turn off GPU rendering and took notice how look it took to recover.  The cards cooling solution quickly reduced the temperature once the GPU load ended and had the card back to 63C fairly quickly and leveled off there. The card never fully recovered, which is interesting to say the least.  Maybe some of the rumors about the hot air getting trapped in the plastic shroud due to the small exhaust vent have merit.

Just for fun let's take a look at NVIDIA's video card thermal performance for this price range. To see how AMD stacks up to NVIDIA.

The BFG Tech GeForce GTS 250 OC topped out at 77C and recovered very quickly almost back to the starting point. When it comes to temperatures the AMD Radeon HD 5700 series tops out at 75C, which is very good.  The direct competition to the cards also tops out around this temperature though, so when it comes to temperatures you can flip a coin.

The highlight of temperature testing was clearly the custom cooler being used on the Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 graphics card as it never broke 70C!ATI Radeon HD 5770 & 5750 Review
