Chipset designer Silicon Integrated Systems said it had secured license to design, manufacture and sell core-logic sets that can work with Intel's latest processors supporting 1066MHz. The company also outlined plans to release chipsets sporting the new processor system bus.
?SiS will be offering the SiS656FX and SiS670 FSB 1066MHz chipsets for the Intel Pentium 4 processors which will be the cornerstones of our high-end chipset marketing strategy. These new SiS chipsets will provide yet another high-end option for consumers seeking extreme performance, and give more users the opportunity to experience the advanced performance and superior quality of SiS chipset technology,?said Daniel Chen, the CEO and President of SiS.
Terms of the license deal were not disclosed.
By now Intel Corp. and VIA Technologies have announced their chipsets supporting 1066MHz processors system bus ?i925XE and PT880-series. NVIDIA Corp. is also expected to release its code-name C19 core-logic that will support processors with higher 1066MHz Quad Pumped Bus.
SiS is about to start commercial deliveries of its 656 and 649 chipsets. SiS656 core-logic is the company's first North-Bridge to support PCI Express x16 bus for graphics as well as dual-channel DDR/DDR2 memory controllers that is capable to handle 400MHz, 533MHz and 667MHz memory modules delivering up to 10.6GB/s of peak memory bandwidth, substantially higher than required nowadays. The new chipset will work with Intel's Pentium 4 and Celeron processors in mPGA478 or LGA775 packaging with 400MHz, 533MHz or 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus. SiS649 is an entry-level chipset that sports Intel Pentium 4 processors, single-channel DDR or DDR2 memory as well as PCI Express x16 lane for graphics cards.
