No, not another Crime Scene Investigation TV drama... but Intel's proposed answer to AMD's Hypertransport.

According to the Register, Intel has been telling some of its customers that it will have AMD beat starting in 2008.

We all love good competition, so I certainly hope Intel comes out with something special... however it would seem foolish to believe that AMD will be sitting on its laurels until 2008.

CSI is a Hypertransport like high speed serial interconnect, supposedly with lower latencies than Hypertransport.?CSI was supposed to first show up?on Whitefield, the Xeon processor that was cancelled when the CSI implementation on it did not work as planned.

Supposedly CSI may now show up in 2008 on the Tukwila version of Itanium, which suggests that Intel expects Itanum to survive; however Xeon's are also supposed to start sporting CSI interfaces around then, allowing the same motherboard to be used for either Xeon or Itanium processors.
