Foxconn GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB

Despite being one of the biggest OEMs around, with deals manufacturing electronics from the Xbox 360 to the PlayStation 3, not to mention Apple's iPod and even Motorola mobile phones, Foxconn is not content to stay behind the scenes. Early this year, the company started pushing its own brand of graphics cards and has plans to produce both ATI and NVIDIA cards.

A very colorful and striking box for the Foxconn GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB.

Yup, there's no escaping the blue LEDs.

The same decal design as the box.

Since this is an early production model, the makeshift nature of the card is obvious as you can tell from the tape used to secure the power cable for the LED.

A free USB game pad is included with the Foxconn.

As of now, Foxconn branded graphics products are still a rarity in the retail market, as it's not available in all regions. However, we did receive an early production model of its GeForce 8800 GTX. The main highlight - blue LEDs. Yes, that favorite color of overclocking enthusiasts has quickly migrated to the new graphics champion. Besides the addition of the LEDs, the Foxconn is just like any other GeForce 8800 GTX, though we did find some interesting extras in the bundle that would not have been out of place in an ASUS bundle. For example, a USB game pad was included together with full editions of software like RestoreIT and Virtual Drive. At the moment, we are not sure when or even whether these cards will be available locally because there seems to be no local distributor for its graphics cards. However it doesn't take a genius to figure out its expected price range as you read through the synopsis of the rest of the cards in this buying guide. As mentioned, you can expect the following bundle with Foxconn's card:-

  • 2 x DVI-to-VGA adaptors
  • 2 x 6-pin PCIe Molex power connectors
  • 9-pin mini-DIN to S-Video/Composite dongle
  • USB Game pad
  • User manual
  • Driver CD
  • RestoreIT 7.0
  • Virtual Drive Pro 10

    Gigabyte GV-NX88X768H-RH

Another familiar brand name for a variety of hardware components, Gigabyte too has a GeForce 8800 GTX up its sleeves. And it has pulled out the big gaming guns in order to match the luxurious price point of the GeForce 8800 GTX. You'll find two games, including the popular and highly rated Civilization IV, along with a relatively new Western themed shooter, Call of Juarez. However, the other software and accessories were not so generous as some other competitors, being just adequate for a GeForce 8800 GTX. The price too may not seem that competitive as the S$1009 (US$655) may just be a tad more costly, especially if the games are not to your liking.

The purple packaging for Gigabyte's GeForce 8800 GTX is both familiar and maybe a bit too garish for our tastes. Perhaps Gigabyte should take a cue from the clean white packaging for its motherboards.

Like the others, the decal is the only obvious difference between the Gigabyte and the other contenders.

  • 9-pin mini-DIN to Component/S-Video dongle
