Overclocking
It seems that even in overclocking, it was quite difficult to distinguish between these reference model GeForce 8800 GTX cards. The best performer in terms of raw overclock speeds turned out to be the Leadtek, which managed a high of 648MHz for the core and 2120MHz DDR for the memory. Compared to the 'worst' overclocker of the bunch, the Foxconn, which managed 625MHz core and 1800MHz memory, the difference wasn't that significant. In fact the 3DMark06 scores between the best and the worst were around 2% to 4%. Translated into actual in-game frame rates, it should not be more than a frame at most.
This was not surprising since all our cards use the default cooler combination and we were unable to secure the more exotic coolers like the one found on the EVGA for this comparison. Most of the cards were able to hit 630MHz for the core and around 2100MHz for the memory so we believe that should be the average overclock for the stock batch of GeForce 8800 GTX cards. However, the gains from overclocking seem marginal at best and at the price for these cards, it may not be the best idea to overexert them unnecessarily.
