[Abstract]
'Tis the Season to SpendIf you have been wondering why we have had no reviews on the top graphics card now, the GeForce 8800 GTX, besides our initial in-depth article on the new GeForce 8 serie...

MSI NX8800GTX-T2D768E
There's probably no need to introduce MSI or the Dynamic Overclocking Technology (D.O.T) found on its drivers. MSI has quickly moved on to the new GeForce 8 series and the utility has also been adapted to the new card. While you can always use NVIDIA's nTune utility to tweak your clock speeds, the addition of D.O.T simplifies matters, especially with its preset overclocking profiles and two-year warranty. Its price is also the lowest among the GeForce 8800 GTX cards surveyed at S$969 (US$627) and considering its more than decent, though familiar bundle, with Serious Sam II game, Star DVD application suite and MSI's new utilities for the latest series, MSI's GeForce 8800 GTX looks to be the bargain of the bunch.
It's angels again for MSI's packaging, just nice for the Christmas season. |

XFX GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB
Associating itself closely with overclocking, XFX has built a name for overclocking its products and targets gamers with attractive game bundles. Unfortunately, with NVIDIA controlling the GeForce 8800 GTX, XFX's version goes by the default clocks. While its products normally seem a bit pricier than the average due to the overclocking and other frills, this time round, the standard XFX GeForce 8800 GTX is actually quite competitive. Local prices start from S$975 (US$630) and you'll get a two-year warranty too.
The distinctive colors of XFX are still present but in a cleaner, more muted style. |

Below is our collated list of accessories bundled with the XFX and as you may notice, there are some glaring omissions. It seems that XFX has either forgotten to include any PCIe Molex power converters needed for this power guzzling GeForce 8800 GTX in the first batch. XFX has reassured us that later batches of its GeForce 8800 GTX cards will ship with the necessary cables. Take note that there is also no game or application found with the package. If you intend to get this card, do ask to check if the items, especially the power converter cables are present, else you may have to make another trip to your PC store. Below is the seemingly incomplete bundle that's reflective of the current batch:
