With processors being pushed harder every year there is always a focus on better cooling for these heat producing products. Larger, faster fans go hand in hand with more powerful cooling but with these come a more noisy system. After the accumulation, the sound from your CPU cooler, your case fans, your video card fan, you northbrdige fan, and others, can get pretty loud, even though no fan is that much worse than any of the others. Ideally you would be able to silence your computer by removing some or all of your fans, but this is easier said than done, especially for the processor and GPU.
One area where its becoming increasingly easy to go fanless is your power supply unit. This is a great way to remove one or two fans from your computer and cut down on on extra system noise. Though PSUs are not exactly notorious for being loud this is a good step towards a quieter system and a crucial one towards a silent one.
The review will be taking a look at fanless power supplies from Coolmax, Thermaltake, Antec, and SilverStone. We are attempting to look test each out and see which PSU reigns supreme!
