R520 to tip the scales at a rumored 300 Million+ Transistors?

The Inq is reporting that the move to Shader Model 3 with ATI's upcoming R520 chip (also to be found in Xbox2) is now rumored to be in the 300+ million transistor range

We reported some months ago that R520 will have up to 300 million transistors but it turned out that ATI manage to squeeze even more transistors on its die. This leads up to the fact that it's very likely to have more pipelines than in the current generation. Last number was 16 and now it's time to go toward 24 we would speculate.
Another 8 pipelines would be a sizeable jump in performance if current clockspeeds can be maintained.?I think it was the 3dfx commercials during the launch of the Voodoo 3 that mentioned something like a billion operations a second.?If Moore's Law holds true on the graphics front we might be seeing billion transistor graphics chips in around 36 months.?
