CD-ROM Benchmark
Nero CD Speed is the utility we turn to arm ourselves with a set of meaningful numbers for gauging the CD performance of the ASUS DRW-1608P. Through this handy utility, performance traits such as maximum read speed, CPU Usage and actual seek time can all be evaluated. Media subjected to this test include an original Warcraft III installation CD for the Data CD benchmark and a "NOW That's What I Call Music" Audio CD for the DAE (digital audio extraction) portion. A Lite-On CD-RW 12x media and a 48x CD-R disc (Hitachi dye) are included to cover all grounds concerning CD.
Apart from a somewhat reserved maximum read speed of 32.83x for our CD-RW media, the ASUS DRW-1608P was quite a speedy CD reader while consuming very little system resource as it went about completing our CD tests. Seek times reported by Nero CD Speed for the drive were all 'healthy' across the board as well.
