DVD-ROM Benchmark
Commenting on the DVD read performance of the ASUS drive requires a test technique that is closely identical to that of CD read test. Nero DVD Speed, the DVD version of Nero CD Speed would be used together with two commercially pressed DVD-ROMs (a single-layer and a dual-layer) and four recordable DVD media (DVD-R. DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW). At the end of the tests, we should be able to get a good measure of the DRW-1608P's read prowess with DVD media.
In a similar reflection of results from what we saw in Nero CD Speed, the ASUS drive was able to return a set of fast read speeds with fast seek times while consuming very little system resources throughout the whole testing phase. The norm DVD³ç read speed of 8x had long been paled by double-digit read speed well beyond the data transfer rate of 8x, evident from the likes of LG GSA-4163B, Pioneer DVR-108 and TDK AID+1616DLN to name a few and we're glad the ASUS drive was able to deliver a fast 12x read speed for DVD³ç media.
