Overclocking - Part 2

Overclocking Results
Throughout our normal test suite, PowerColor produced some quirky results, but when it came to overclocking, it was right at the top of the pack along with HIS and it's mighty Artic Cooling unit. Both cards managed a healthy 20% speed bump from their successful overclocking. Perhaps PowerColor's BIOS was set aggressively, which reflected in slower default performance, but instead promoted better overclocking. Now on the HIS card, don't forget that it is equipped with a turbo mode, but even then, the overclock it achieved still betters the turbo mode by 10%.

GeCube unfortunately had little overclocking headroom beyond its default clock settings, but Gigabyte's RAM overclock was the most disappointing in the shootout. Though Gigabyte's core could hit 470MHz without issues, its RAM chips were stuck at an unusually low clock speed of 900MHz DDR. Given the specifications of the memory parts, it's an even more bizarre outcome for which we couldn't tag a reason.

The trio from ABIT, ATI and Sapphire managed pretty decent overclocking, with ATI matching the clock speeds of the rare RADEON X700 XT SKU.

Studying the overclock achieved by each card and comparing that to the clock speed of a RADEON X700 XT product (which is 475/1050MHz), some of them couldn't match up to that level while others barely surpassed it. Remember, these cards are actually using a RADEON X700 XT VPU. Even if the cards surpassed the requirement of an X700 XT VPU, it is likely that ATI or its vendors decided to pass it off as a RADEON X700 PRO product since there wasn't much headroom.
