Sapphire Hybrid RADEON X700 PRO 256MB
Though Sapphire has a Toxic edition that straps on an Arctic Cooling solution, they have chosen to send us the normal edition for the shootout. Surprisingly, our period of testing the card found it to be one of the coolest operating cards of all contestants. That was a pleasant surprise given that the card was outfitted with a very simple cooler and RAMsinks all around for the memory parts:-
Sapphire's Hybrid RADEON X700 PRO 256MB graphics card. Note the card's rather simple cooler unit, which only goes to show that the RADEON X700 PRO is a card that's simple to tame. |
RAMsinks are fitted for all the memory chips. |
As mentioned earlier, every card in this article features the 2ns GDDR3 part from Samsung. The marking are a little worn off in this photo but it is the same memory part. |
The output connectors on the faceplate are identical to all other RADEON X700 PRO cards. |
The entire package. |
Along with the card, you'll get the following accessories and software, which we think is pretty fine for a midrange graphics card:-
DVI-I to VGA adapter S-Video extension cable Composite extension cable S-Video to Composite converter plug Sapphire manual Sapphire Driver CD Sapphire RedLine Tweak Utility Sapphire casing sticker Software: CyberLink PowerDVD 5.0 (2-channel) Games: Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (DVD), Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time (2 CDs)
The cable package is as follows: S-Video extension cable, Composite extension cable, a DVI-I to DB15 VGA adapter and an S-Video to Composite converter jack. |
Sapphire's RedLine Tweak Utility interface is rather plain and can be a little overwhelming. The nice part is it's overclocking utility if you don't wish to use a 3rd party tool. |
Another look at the Sapphire Hybrid RADEON X700 PRO 256MB graphics card. |
While it may be the coolest operating graphics cards in the shootout, its fan noise level is a little audible and that's where the Toxic Edition would come in handy if you want to have total silence. One other nitpick we had with the bundle was the lack of a Component output dongle. With the supplied cables, you could only output to your television screen via the old Composite or S-Video connections.
