Albatron AGP6600GT
Albatron is one of those manufacturers who eschewed the reference design when it came to cooler design for their AGP6600GT card. That could have been a good thing but in this case, it seemed to have backfired. The AGP6600GT fared poorly in terms of noise output and was easily one of the loudest GeForce 6600 GT card in our comparison. The heatsink actually looks rather nice and Albatron manages to integrate the usually separate heatsink for the HSI (High Speed Interconnect) chip into a uniform circular design. However, the heatsink design plus the fast spinning fan are the main factors contributing to card's loud operation. Overclocking performance was about average, indicating that the cooler was not very efficient despite the din it made. Besides the cooler, most of the card is similar to NVIDIA's reference design, clocked at the default speeds and equipped with the standard I/O connectors.
Like so many vendors, Albatron opted for the shiny package design. |

Albatron's unique circular cooler design may look good, but beware of its noise. |
The bundled package is simple and lacks a DVI-to-VGA adaptor as well as other important cable accessories like a Y-power cable and video extension cables. Only one video output dongle and a couple of applications and old games were provided. Here is the list of items found in the package:
WinDVD WinDVD Creator Arx Fatalis Game Pack (5 game demos in 1) Driver CD GeForce Series User Manual TV-output cable dongle for Composite / S-Video / Component connections
While Albatron's accompanying aging software bundle leaves you wanting more, they far exceed the single cable accessory supplied. |
