Gainward PowerPack Ultra/1960 XP
Many of you would have heard of Gainward's Golden Sample cards, their select grade of graphics cards which boasts excellent overclocking capabilities. Gainward has a couple of slightly different variants of the GeForce 6600 GT in their product range. However for this shootout, we are looking at the mainstream version of their GeForce 6600 GT card instead of the higher clocked Golden Sample edition. Clocked at the typical GeForce 6600 GT frequencies of 500/450MHz, the Gainward PowerPack Ultra/1960XP has the exact same cooler design as the Chaintech SA6600G. Gainward's card is definitely the more eye-catching twin as its dark red color scheme for the heatsink complements its red PCB perfectly. Performance wise, both cards are clocked at default frequencies and we expect to see very close and similar scores. However, the Gainward card was much less overclockable than the Chaintech, especially for its memory chips. We can only speculate that Gainward must have 'handpicked' and reserved the best components for its elite Golden Sample product line, hence the average overclocking ability of our Gainward PowerPack Ultra/1960XP.
Does the Gainward PowerPack live up to its name? |
Gainward has decided to go with the all red look here, similar to a number of other products in their line-up. |
As you can see, the Gainward and Chaintech possess similar coolers. |
What was rather disappointing about the Gainward PowerPack Ultra/1960XP was its minimal bundle of accessories and software. There was no third party application or games included and the only CD contained the drivers and Gainward's own performance tuning utility ?EXPERTool. Here is the short list of items found in the package:
EXPERTool Tuning Utility Driver CD Quick Start Manual DVI-to-VGA adaptor 9-pin mini-DIN to HDTV (component cable dongle)
You'll find only the minimal accessories in the package. |
A final shot of the Gainward PowerPack Ultra/1960 XP. |
