Conclusion

After a comprehensive evaluation of the GeForce 6600 GT cards, we have rated them under several subcategories to illustrate how these cards fared in various aspects of the tests. Caveat: Each subcategory carries different weightage and do not necessarily add up to the eventual rating given for that card. Also, the pricing information we have listed below is not the final, absolute price of the product, but rather retail prices found on the web that are accurate at the point of writing.

Here are brief explanations to some of the subcategories we used:

  • Features: This is rated based on the features of the graphics cards such as video capturing, hardware monitoring or other exclusive highlights.
  • Image Quality: This was judged based on the display output on our test CRT monitor (Philips Brilliance 202P4). Attributes such as text clarity, sharpness and color vividness were some of the aspects we use to judge the output quality.
  • Software Bundle: Rated in accordance to our evaluation of relevance, quality, quantity, version, inclusion of games and quality/quantity of game selection. Gainward had nothing much bundled besides the drivers CD and their overclocking utility, leading to their low score here.

Before we give out the ratings and awards for this shootout, we would like to highlight a few outstanding products and the accolades they have garnered from us.

First, MSI has offered an excellent and complete GeForce 6600 GT product. As evident from the report card, the NX6600GT-VTD128 did well in all aspects. Its clock speed may follow the default but with their own D.O.T overclocking utility, end users can ramp up their cards without fear of voiding their warranty. And the overclocking certainly was nothing to sneer at. Taken together with the additional VIVO feature and the best software/accessories bundle, we had no qualms handing it our 5 Stars award. The only thing that we wished to change was the relatively high price tag on it but at least you would get your money's worth.

Chaintech's SA6600G turned out to be a rather decent graphics card with a good accessories, software and game bundle. However what really stood out about the card was its excellent overclocking capability and it's without a doubt our Most Overclockable Product award recipient.

Finally, we had to choose a winner among the nine cards for this shootout. MSI's NX6600GT-VTD128 would have been a likely candidate for this if only it was more competitively priced. No doubt it is an outstanding product but to garner this accolade, a product should also carry a price tag that befits its segment. Instead, we found that there was a card that performed well within its specifications while having good overclocking capability. It was also the coolest card but managed to be quiet at the same time. Its software and accessories bundle may not match MSI in quantity but it was ranked second in our report card. The final decisive factor was its very reasonable price and in the end, we deemed the Leadtek WinFast A6600GT TDH as our Winner of the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT Shootout.
