Temperature Testing
The Leadtek A6600GT TDH was the coolest card in our roundup, followed by the Galaxy GeForce 6600 GT while the cards from ASUS, Chaintech and Gainward turned in much higher temperatures. An interesting thing to note that while the Chaintech and Gainward did it their way with their own cooler design, it did not perform significantly better than others (ASUS, Gigabyte) which had stuck close to the reference design. Others like Albatron did well in the temperature tests but at the expense of its noise output while the card's large copper cooler was not as efficient as we initially hoped. Only the rare ones like the Leadtek and Galaxy managed the ideal mix of quiet and efficient cooling. Galaxy's cooling in particular, was excellent as it was already 'overclocked' out of the box. ASUS may have had the highest temperatures but it was also operating at higher clock speeds; that should warn potential overclockers to ensure that they have proper case ventilation first.
